Bought myself a bike on ebay for Xmas, made this walk a lot easier
Left car park about 8:30, the tarmac road leads to the lodge so it's an easy cycle. Back to viaduct:
Hay had been left out for the deer so there were loads about, got a pic from a distance as the sight of me was putting them off their breakfast
Nice road up to lodge, rough track to bothy:
Bothy with Sgurr Thuilm behind:
Cycled to the start of the Sgurr nan Coireachan path (signposted) and left bike here. Doing this hill first would avoid the steep descent and most other walkers had gone this way judging by the footprints in snow further up. Followed path over bendy girder bridge to start of Sgurr Thuilm:
Easy ascent up a grassy hill. Starts about 150m altitude so quite a bit of climbing, the ridge at the top has minor peaks on it so there's a lot of total ascent even though the Munros are about 950m. Over to the descent from Sgurr a Choire Rhiabhaich:
Nice views back down the glen:
Sgurr nan Coireachan in cloud:
Nearly at the top:
Cairn, Loch Arkaig on the right:
Loch Morar:
Started round the ridge, aargh here comes the cloud!
Ridge:
Arkaig again:
Looks a bit more dramatic further on:
Nice walk over the ridge, a few ups & downs but fairly easy. Top of Sgurr nan Coireachan free from cloud for once:
Few craggy bits on the way up, bit more character on this hill:
Trig point:
Onwards to the last top, Sgurr a Choire Rhiabhaich:
Steep descent, followed footprints then once the snow cleared I could see the path. It winds round to the right initially, then returns to the track:
After the snow, I would probably have preferred to climb up this way as the path was tricky in places:
Craggy descent route:
Back to the track:
It's an easy coast back on the bike & saves a lot of time, but it would be a good walk in fair conditions. If your legs are still operational
Back to the car, stopped off at the visitor centre car park for a photo of the monument where Bonnie Prince Charlie started the 1945 Jacobite Rebellion. SPOILER ALERT They lost.
