After the last few weeks of high pressure, a trip to Torridon seemed ace. However the forecast changed to low cloud - OK, patchy drizzle - hmm, reality - clag and rain
After losing my last camera, a special purchase was in order to record the magnificence of this area - no pictures, nothing to see and not getting the shiny newness out in the rain.
- Friday - Loch an Eilean
- Sunday - Liathiach
But hey we are here so get up that hill, Pidge decided to reverse the route so nan Clach first and see how we go.
As we climbed higher we felt a rising wind even in the Coire an Laoigh and as we arrived at the trig point we became aware of just how gusting it was.
The snow condition under foot was a little worrying as well, on the large slabs it held up well but in areas it was granular, sugar snow and did not hold together at all. Which made transitioning to the exposed scree patches and back a little unnerving.
We arrived at the summit in 3 hrs but with rain, clag, gusting winds and less than confident footing concensus was to call it a day.
The only highlight of the day was finding a sledging frog on the snow in the coire, which the David Attenborough's among us had to video. Then a wee shout as Charlie disappeared through the snow into hole over a burn. From which he reappeared like the Lady of the Lake holding his camera aloft like Excalibur.
Even had to push one of the cars out of the mud in the car park.
Oh well, retreated to the Kinlochewe hotel for a pint of An Teallach
