I finished work at 2pm on Thursday and fancied a wee hill walk now that the days are stretching a little and I wouldn't be walking back in the dark. I have came down from the hills via Wee Tory but ever ascended. I set off via the glen which is always very pretty with all the waterfalls and gradually gets steeper but wee charged on ahead. The path is pretty straight forward and easy to follow, once we reached a stile I normally cross here and continue further up the glen but this time I followed a faint path up hill. Here it got difficult, a straight slog uphill almost vertical, I admit I had to stop a few times. As I got nearer the gully I ventured off to the right hoping to find a more gentle ascent further along but not such luck.

What confuses my about this section the ochils as I have seen references to Wee Tory, Big Tory, Craig Elsie and Craig Leith... can anyone shed some light onto which is which and if I was at the proper summit of Wee Tory. I have read of a something dedicated to one of the hill runners but I couldn't see anything bar a small cross on the way down.

I guess a walk up a hill is no big deal for a time traveller. Date walked: 28/04/2013

Nice pictures. Really get the essence of the steep sided hills.

Some fab photos, as in all your reports, and liking the last one showing your route.

Cheers.

Thanks for the comments :) Had a great day out just the two of us, there is something relaxing about sitting in the quiet enjoying the views. Ooops just noticed the date  a month ahead of myself.

Lovely pictures. I'm wondering if the mist might actually be smoke. On high pressure days it can form layers and then drift along...

I am not too sure on the mist, it could be smoke. The reason I assumed it might have been mist as earlier in the day there had been a thick fog/mist in the morning that only cleared by lunch and also looking towards the monument there was a thin layer of mist. It would be interesting to know for sure what it is.

Looking at it again, it looks like what I saw over Banchory in December, which was chimney smoke. Whatever it is, it looks stunning.

Yes the ochils are my regular hills but despite their size they can be tough wee hills, still got lots to explore though :)

It could well have been smoke, if only I had gotten a better look at where it was coming from but I was too far back to see properly.
