I was staying at the Corran bunkhouse so I fancied a nice easy day on the hills just across the Corran Narrows so over on the ferry as a foot passenger and a walk along the road to 014658 then taking to hill through tall grass and bracken.
- Looking back down to the starting point on Loch Linnhe
The route was rough and steep and I had to keep checking the best route of ascent.
- The route of ascent
Eventually I reached the summit cairn and columnar trig point of Sgurr na h-Eanchainne where I rested to enjoy the extensive views.
- Loch Linnhe from the trig point
- Looking down the route of ascent
The route around the rim of Coire Dubh looked to be quite straightforward and so it proved and Druin na Sgriodain was quickly reached.
- Around the rim of Coire Dubh
I decided to continue down the ridge of Meall Breac to drop down to Sallachan.
- Descending Meall Breac looking up Glen Gour
However, there was a sting in the tail in that there is a tree studded cliff above Sallachan which prevents a direct descent so I had to go back up a way to traverse west above the tree line to descend eventually near the outflow of Loch nan Gabhar followed by a bit of a struggle along the north bank of the river to reach the bridge - not really what I was expecting or wanting at the end of the walk! There then followed a rather footsore slog for a couple of miles along the road back to the ferry with many cars whizzing past - not pleasant at all.
