We have explored these stunning Fairy Pools several times. The walk makes for a lovely evening stroll up and down before a visit to the Old Inn in Carbost. A slightly longer walk is to do the (3 sided circular) route as detailed. However, the route detailed involves going up alongside the Fairy Pools, turning left at the cairns to walk under Bruach Na Firthe until you pick up the Sligachan path, turn left and then back down again etc. However we have found that doing it this way round is not a good idea. Firstly you have to cross the "granny stopper" stream at the start of the walk. Today it was very high and we had to wade through it - so you start the walk with soggy feet. Secondly when you turn left at the twin cairns, the traverse path it leads you onto is very boggy and muddy - as everyone on previous posts has indicated. The much better route is to go clockwise as follows:
1. Cross over road from car-park and start walk.
2. Shortly after, take path to the left signposted Glen Sligachan. (ignore the two small twin cairns after about 30 mins)
3. Walk for about 45mins along this good path to the watershed, where there are twin cairns, a big one on the left and a smaller one on the right.
4. Slightly ahead, there are a serious of small cairns off to the right leading onto a good path. This path is higher than the one detailed in the walkhighland route - but a great wee path. Today we walked in strong wind and heavy rain/sleet/snow - typical Skye weather in May I guess - but the path was clear and NOT BOGGY.
5. Keep walking until you come to the top of the main stream flowing into Coire na Creiche. Turn right down a short patch of scree and pick up the path that runs alongside the beautiful Fairy Pools. Treat yourself to a dip if it is not snowing!
6. Crossing over the "granny stopper" stream at the bottom (does not really matter if you get wet feet now) follow the path up and back to the car park.
If you go anti clockwise, the good path off to your left at the top of the Fairy Pools path is not easy to spot but it is at the very end of the path after a short patch of scree.
Not sure why we had the whole walk to ourselves today? Normally it is quite a popular route, perhaps the driving rain had put everyone off!
