Arriving at the View point, picnic area, I met up with a couple visiting from Canada, who had left Scotland over forty years ago, and was originally from Laurencekirk or nearby, a Mr and Mrs Douglas, so if your reading this Mr and Mrs D, Hi again, and hope you had a wonderful holiday, and safe journey back. When driving on the A90 back towards Brechin I could see the Tower of Johnston on top of Hill of Garvock before turning up the B9120 the road marked for St Cyrus. With little or no climbing I was to travel light, just camera, no food or drink, this was going to be a short one.
- Car parked at the viewpoint, with information board and picnic tables
- Looking back to the carpark with the windfarm beyond. Walking on grass fields all the way to the top
- First sighting of the Johnston Tower at the summit
- Zoom in on the tower, and oh no more cows, I've seen enough of them already today, ah well, press on
- Just follow the track keeping an eye on the cattle as they are deffinately keeping an eye on me, if fact a big black one has just started moving toward the rest of the clan from the bottom of the field. I'm now standing still waiting to see what's going to happen. Big Blackie is now amongst the rest bellowing and I start walking very slowly. By now all the cattle on both sides are coming from all corners of the field towards me, another stop, I think and then the staring begins, and this situation stays like this for a few minutes, now if only I had eyes at the back of my head. I start talking to them softly and with a smiley face, I slowly walk on, ready for any rushing by my new friends, getting a wee bit concerned now as there is not really any place I can run to. It certainly has not helped having been chased of Kerloch earlier in the morning. Eventually one by one they appear to be getting interested in getting on with what they do best, eating grass. I start walking slowly and eventually reach the top
- The ringleader and main culprit of all the aggro
- The tower
- Looking back at my mates
- Entrance to tower, by now I was quite happy to take photographs, and maybe the cows would go somewhere away from the route I was to return
- Tower close up
- Carving in the stonework below the cill
- View from the summit looking towards Banchory
- Zoom of Laurencekirk
- The calfs
- Information board at start of walk
