I had last week and this week off my work and my original plan was to have a few days in the Lakes with my sister but the weather hasn't looked that great down there so we have had a few wee outings here and there. Last Thursday one of the only areas we could see on the forecast map showing a sun was Aberdeenshire, so I had a look on walkhighlands, read a few reports and picked Millstone hill. We have relatives in Aberdeen so dropped my mum with them and then headed out to the Don View car park, there was only two other cars in the small carpark. What a fantastic walk, yes we had more driving in the day than walking but for me it was worth it (easy to say that as a passenger!)

The walk is straightforward, the route is as stated but there is way markers all the way to the stop.

Lots of steps not long into the walk

More rocky steps but the views are starting to open up a bit and it was getting quite warm

Penny reaches another summit, she charged on right to the top, must have been having an energetic day!

What a view

Got a bit of a fright when Penny decided to jump up here, someone needs to remind her she will be 10 in a few weeks!

More beautiful views

We took the circular route as described in walkhighlands

I really enjoyed this walk, perfect weather and amazing views to Bennachie. On route back to Aberdeen we had a quick walk to the Tyrebagger sculptures but I was a bit disappointed as we only spotted 3 and not what I expected. Maybe I am just too spoilt by the grande sculptures around Clackmannanshire.

Lovely photos, Sarah. This was one of my first walks after moving to Scotland and the view of Mither Tap from Millstone Hill sticks clearly in my mind. We quite often seem to get the best of the weather here in Aberdeen :)

Thanks, we really had a great day and it was nice to have a good sunny day away somewhere different.

The funny this is a few days later when rain was forecast, again the weather looked good for Aberdeen

As much as I've done Bennachie, I have never done this. Looks a nice wee pad. And love Penny, she's adorable.

It was really pleasant, only took us about 45 minutes to get to the top but the view to Bennachie is great. I will need to get up Bennachie the next time I am up. Thanks :) I always need to try and get a Penny pic at the top of each hill.

Great report Sarah and some lovely photos too. As I always say, NE Scotland is so overlooked, yet so underrated. Give Bennachie a go, but also have a look at heading out to the Correen Hills on a sunny day, great views and Penny will love it :D
