Bynack More overnighter
Posted: Mon May 20, 2013 3:56 pmAfter 6 days in Knoydart (see report here) basscadet and myself found ourselves having a pub meal in Fort Augustus on a wet Friday afternoon. The weekend forecast looked ropey in the west but ok for the Cairngorms. Therefore, rather than head home to put our feet up, we drove along the A86 to Aviemore where a proper bed and much needed shower were enjoyed in the motel.
We fancied another night in the tent and Seana had not climbed Bynack More so we decided on the usual out and back route from Glenmore Lodge, broken up with a camp by the bridge over the River Nethy. A little over an hour including the obligatory stop at Lochan Uaine brought us to the bridge where we pitched the tent and sheltered from a couple of passing showers before heading off to bag Bynack More.

This must be one of the easiest Munros to climb even with the distance involved and basscadet seemed a little disappointed the day was so short
. I was less troubled

The only obstacles on our 3.1/2 hour trip from and back to the tent were a steepish snow patch and the odd light hail shower. However, it was an enjoyable walk with the cloud above tops and good views to the east and north in particular

We were surprised by the lack of other walkers and only saw two all day. We returned to the tent around 5pm and settled in for the usual loose routine of sleeping, eating and chatting. Of course we could have walked back to the car, but the point was to just enjoy being out.
Sunday came and the weather was similar - mostly dry and bright. There were a lot more walkers about and many passed our tent as we had a lie-in until around midday.

An easy stroll back to the car was followed by some window shopping in Aviemore to bring our holiday to an end. Quite a contrast to the previous few days in Knoydart but an enjoyable weekend nonetheless .
