Wadering along to where the path ends. a read johnny corbetts report a couple weeks ago and remember JC saying they took a wrong turn so i went straight on but the track still comes to an end so you have to wander up through the trees and steep slopes to reach the summit.

Aye a would not recommend trying either Meall Alvie or Creag Ghiubhais without gaiters as the heather is knee deep in places.
Would not take a lot to turn Meall Alvie in to a decent circular route as it has forest tracks on both sides as has T C O Muick. But as you say a pity they don't have a proper route as it probably puts folk off bagging em.
