An after lunch walk on Beinn a Chearchaill
Posted: Mon Jul 15, 2013 4:25 pmWe started the walk from the house close to the Bridge of Grudie where there is a very good path going in towards the base of the main Beinn Eighe summit....I can recall going by this way in the late sixties for a traverse of the Ben Eighe tops. Leave the good path at a wee cairn to head up into Coire Beiste to around 500 mrts./alt. or so where the path ends at a another wee cairn. From now on the hundreds maybe even thousands now who have tread this way to the summit have all had their own way of reaching the elevated area since not a blade of vegetation shows any trace of their passing.....well at least I could not see any. A few small lochans around to assist with 'getting there' over the roughish terrain!
- Up from Loch Maree into Coire Beiste....Loch Maree and Slioch in view.
- The curious sandstone pavement of the summit area where it looks as if in ancient times there had been a shot putting contest using stones that were just left where they landed.
- Grand views of the surrounding Torridon giants and coires....better light and good camera lens would pay real rewards in here.
- The wee cairn indicating the way into Coire Beiste...where the path is less well made and defined. The two big tops above the big coire are in view.
