Walkhighlands

Cycled in from Linn of Dee which took 1 hour to Geldie Lodge. The track appears to be fairly level but more of an incline on the route in. The wind also made a differance to the timings as there was resistance on way in but effortless on the return. I left the bike at the Geldie Lodge "shed" and set off on foot along the path. The path ends at the stream, although fainter paths get you onto the ridge where a more prominant path leads to the summit of Carn an Fhidheir. I had originally planned to do the remote Corbett, Beinn Bhreac as well but guessed it was going to add another 3-4 hours onto the walk and when the cloud came down on Carn an Fhidleir i decided to miss it out and carry on to An Sgarsoch. The path continues from the summit and around the 906m top and then suddenly ends, where you drop down to cross the peat hags before heading up the ridge to An Sgarsoch. I had lunch on the summit before heading north and around the east side Scarsoch Bheag to pick up the path back to the Lodge. There was another bike here when i returned, another person that didn't fancy the long walk in and out. I now got on my bike and 35mins later i was at Linn of Dee car park.

Nice and quick for these two. I have a long walk ahead to get these. The wind this weekend defo made life interesting

Good stuff, JC - fairly long way for these two but the track looks ideal for the bike. It also looks a bit more straightforward than approaching from Glen Feshie but the latter may be more scenic ?
Noticed you have a knee support on in photo 16 of 17 - I've occasionally thought about using one but wasn't sure - wondered if you find it gives a lot of support ? - cheers

Cheers. Tracks ideal for the bike. You're right it's not the most scenic approach but the most logical. I always wear a knee support just on my left knee, got a wee problem with it and the support helps i think.

Yip i was knackered Chris. I got up at five for this one with full intentions of doing the Corbett as well but wasn't feeling 100%. Think i got up far too early

Does the wee shed at the ruins of Geldie Lodge still offer a dry shelter? and also is the bothy at Ruigh Ellasaid still completely trashed inside?

Hi, yes the shelter is still dry. As for the bothy, i'm not sure as i didn't have a look inside. There was a National Trust notice up stating the building was unsafe.

A nice bike and hike, Johnny. I really like the remote situation of these two, with scenery very well captured in your photos. Am I the only one who actually enjoys walking all the way on a route like this? ( And that was during the July heatwave - maybe a case of mad dogs and Englishmen.)

Thats a good effort walking in, i take my hat of to you, especially in the heat. I prefer to use my bike when i can as i don't do any mountain biking these days, prefer to hill walk.
