I Parked my camper Saturday night in the small car park just south of the storey arms grid ref sn987199. After a couple of drinks we settled down to sleep the van being gently rocked by the wind and the sound of the rain hitting the roof of the van we were soon asleep. We awoke early and were ready to start our walk by 8am. As we made our way up the very wide path towards Corn Du the clouds started to break up and the sun started to show it self. On reaching the ridge of Bwlch Duwynt the wind was blowing quite hard as it does most of the time. We stopped just long enough to take a photo.

We continued on to the summit of Pen y Fan the weather improving all the time and the views opening up as it does. A quick cup of coffee and we head back and up to the summit of Corn Du.

Not so good photo of Pen y Fan and it`s neighbours from Corn Du.

Now we set out to a lesser known hill of Pen Milan.

As we make our way down the steep path off Corn Du towards the Tommy Jones memorial I hear someone take a fall I look back and I see Lindsay on the ground and trying to get her feet, as I get to her she is on her feet dusting herself down saying i`m OK with a bent walking pole in one hand and rubbing her butt with the other hand  thankfully no injuries.

We stop at the Tommy Jones memorial thinking of a young life lost.

There`s not much to say about Pen Milan other than I have looked at it many times from different locations and thought one day and that day was today. On to the last hill of the day, Y Gyrn where we stopped for lunch.

Looking down at Y Gyrn with Graig Cerrig Gleisiad just beyond.
As we sat eating our lunch looking down at the A470 and all the traffic passing by I said to Lindsay how nice it was to have a hill all to ourselves! . As we headed down the path towards Storey arms and the car park I have to say until you join the main path it get a bit soft under foot in places,

Hi willie
Thanks for posting !
Can I ask if it's possible to wild camp in that area ?
Was considering the beacons for a weekend which is within reasonable driving distance from Belgium.
Thanks

So that's what Pen-y-Fan looks like from Corn Du :-) Corn Du has always been covered in cloud when I've been there. Might be there on Sunday, that or the Black Mountains.

I believe wild camping is illegal in Wales & England, but that said I have see many people camping. Even on this walk as I looked down at the small lake of Llyn Cwm Llwch there was a tent pitched near the lake.

Hi Stevesey I checked the weather forecast for the beacons this weekend. The best day is Sunday. Saturday, fog early morning and then cloudy. Hope you have a great weekend. Hope to read your report.
Cheers Chris :)
