Got up before 8 and struck camp then had a walk around some islands in the middle of the river ness looking for the miniature railway but could'nt find it. Drove the 9 miles outside of Inverness to Fort George and arrived just after 11 where we parked in a big field and made our way into the fort for the Historic Scotland flagship event 'Celebration of The Centuries' which ran from 11 till 5 o'clock. sat up on the walls at first and watched the roman re-enactors and then we mingled around the various camp sites and visited the 1940s area where there was a swing band and dancers, also had a walk round the entire walls of the fort and a wee look round the buildings inside and visited the church before watching more re-enactments, there was also a spitfire display. It was a really good day and stayed quite sunny and dry untill just at the end when it gave a heavy downpour for an hour or so but this happened just as the event was finishing. left Fort George the back of 5 and headed North through Inverness and across the Kessock Bridge up the A9 stopping at Alness for suppers from the chippie. Stopped briefly at the layby just North of Brora where their is a memorial stone to the last wolf killed in Sutherland, and then proceeded Northwards hoping to reach Wick and find a campsite before dark' about 20 miles South of Wick at Lybster, the A99 road we were on was closed in both directions due to an accident at which there was a couple of fire engines, a few police cars and a helicopter, this held us up for about 45 minutes and when we eventually reached Wick after 9 the light was beginning to fade, luckily we found a campsite straight away and got the tent pitched just before dark, this cost £16 per night also. Drove into Wick about 10:30 and was surprised to find a tesco complete with petrol station so filled up and got milk for coffee and some goodies before heading back to tent for our first of two nights in Wick.
