Brill weather (knee never been the same)
Posted: Sun Feb 21, 2010 3:00 pmBest day ever had on the hill(sore knee n all).Alan,James and me left Lawers hotel nice n early short walk along road,turn left up track by Machuim Farm (well sign posted)onto open hillside,views up to Ben Lawers,An Stuc,Meall Garbh and our 1st top of the day Meall Greigh all in view,and what a view,1st 2 hrs bit of a slog as we climbed N up grassy slopes to summit cairn,brill views down to Lochan Nan Cat and also all of the Lawers range.
Next 1 1/2 to 2 hrs on climb to Meall Garbh best ever,weather,views,climb,company(3 out of 4 aint bad),nice long stop at top to take it all in and also look at climb onto An Stuc(the more we looked the more ours bums started to squeak),the next 15/20 min once we started climbing/scrambling to top had our hearts pounding and bums squeaking as this was 1st time any of us had done any scrambling so far.Brilliant,super,loved this bit from start to finish,then the view at top could not get any better(this is why we endure all the days with no views,wind,rain)worth every second for days like this.
Long stop at cairn to take in all the views,then started down the steep gully following the small stream that feeds Lochan Nan Cat,this is where my knee packed in.(new then my planed trip to Glen Shiel,and the South Glen Shiel ridge,was not going to happen but can"t let Alan,James know this),
Long steep descent to Lochan Nan Cat followed by a long walk round north shore to the small dam where we picked up the track(what about all the dead sheep hidden behind the dam wall ) that takes you back past farm and the horn carvers cottage,and the Lawers hotel(knee by now totaly gone).
The owners of hotel have built a large carpark for walkers to use,in return they hope you will buy a pot of tea on your return to car(as always im driving but the 1/2 n 1/2 lager shandy was nectar).All in all brilliant day.
