Take the B9119 out of Tarland on the Aberdeen road and after about 1.5k find the road to Pett farm on your left. Previous reports have suggested that you can drive to the farm and park up there, I guess this wee hill is getting too popular as there is a sign at the foot of the drive up saying no unauthorised vehicles beyond this point, there is space for a couple of cars at the bend in the road.
- No cars beyond this point
- After walking up the road towards the farm just carry on passing Pett farm on the East side and head on up towards the Pittenderich woods
- The track towards the woods takes you past North Pett on your left within a wooded area and a field on your right with livestock
- At a Y junction of the track I took the left fork and into the wooded area and continued until faced with another Y junction the right went uphill and the left headed slightly downhill but appeared to be heading out of the woods, I plumped for the downward track to get out of the woods
- Right enough the trees were thining out and I came to the end where there was a turning area in the track, from the turning area there is a path heading on up the hill adjacent to the woods, in a very short time you come across an opening in the fenceline to the woods where you head on up through more woods
- Track back up through woods. This track soon comes across another track circling around the 508m point. Just keep following the main track up in the direction of the summit
- Another application for a Wind Farm! How many more!!!
- Looking back from the open hillside towards the Pittenderich woods
- Trig point to Summit cairn
- Large summit cairn shelter
- The summit cairn conceals a plastic box with a summit record book. Some people may say this is litter, but litter to me is something discarded, I'm not saying I agree with it but who knows it maybe being used to find out how more popular this hill is becoming, so a record is being made and stastistics being recorded, It's certainly doing no harm and somebody is getting a whole lot of satisfaction in recording data for what ever reason, much better than finding dozens of discarded fag ends, banana skind and rusty old cans stuck in the cairn, so Bill if your reading this maybe you would like to tell us the story behind the wee summit book, and by the way thanks for the sweetie! Time to summit one hour, then returned so far down into the wooded area to explore where one of these circular tracks went, but eventually ditched this idea as I was going way out of my way and headed through deep ferns and undergrowth to get on another lower track to take me back to the reat of Pitt Farm, picking up a couple of ticks on the way.
