Having only walked one wainwright (cat bells) don't laugh! I set off on Monday morning with my wife and 17 year old daughter to attempt Ben Lawers, it started well enough, made it through the nature reserve, and within an hour and a half we had scaled Beinn Ghlas. Although the weather was fair by the time we had made it to the final climb to ben lawers summit probably no more than 20 minutes I guess the wind hand increased considerably and my wife and daughter where not dressed to cope with the conditions I decided to head back rather than be one of those people I am extremely critical of when I here of them getting into difficulty and having to be rescued and probably more important the wrath of my wife for the rest of our holiday. Ironically not ten minutes after we turned back we met a young couple in jeans and trainers!
Although disappointed I did not set out to get us into difficulty and after all its a good excuse to go back and have another go in the future.
In the words of Arnie " I will be back"
Also fancy having a go at Schiehallion next time we are up there.
P.S stopped at Mains of Taymouth-superb. :D

Bad luck there waugh13, and better luck next time! Better safe than sorry. Being caught in very strong winds can be a frightening experience. Ben Lawers is a big hill, I take it you went back on the escape route at the rear of Beinn Ghlas to get out of the wind and drop in height to traverse around the North West side.

No nearly about it, you climbed Beinn Ghlas, a perfectly decent Munro in its own right. It also means that if you should want to traverse the other 6 Lawers Munros in one go ( ), you won't feel guilty about not doing the double-back thing you'd have to do to take in Beinn Ghlas...
