The WH route from Swanston village sets off towards Hillend ski centre. Did the route in reverse, heading past the pretty whitewashed buildings and straight up the steady climb to Allermuir. Had The Dog and a herd of cattle required slight detour half-way up. Otherwise a straightforward enough walk to top, with decent views over the eastern Pentlands.

Also done this hill along with neighbouring Carketton on 10/2/01, as per route described in 'One Hundred Walks Round Edinburgh' by Chalmers and Storey: 7 miles & 450m ascent.
