Started the walk from Black Loch where a track takes you round the Loch before starting to climb. We stayed on the track and left it after a small bridge over a stream. There had been some tree felling here but the route over was straightforward enough. This took us around Kirkloch and upto the fence which had to be climbed. After getting over the fence we started the climb up and it was here we first saw the Sheep further up the fenceline. At the point i thought it was either dead or just lying down as it looked motionless. We carried on upwards and were soon on the ridge and were on the summit soon after. It was windy once we got there with no views so took some summit photos and headed back down, stopping off at a sheltered craggy part for lunch. We then continued back down towards the fence. We soon saw the Sheep and as we got closer realized it had got itself trapped in the fence with one of its rear legs. We tried to free it but the wire fence had embedded itself three quarters of the way through the lower part of the Sheeps leg. We had nothing to cut the fence with so decided to report it to the Police, in the hope they could get in touch with the Farmer to get it freed. We then continued our walk still concerned about the poor Sheep and cursing ourselves for not having a multi-tool with us. We were now heading for Craignell and were back on the original track. We left it to head over to the pylons where we saw a break upto the ridge. It was hard going once past the pylons as we crossed soft and uneven ground before gaining the ridge with the ridge not being must better. After reaching the summit we returned back down the ridge and made our way down to the Burn which we followed so far before climbing a steep slope to get back on the track just above Black Loch and back to the start.

Know how you felt about the trapped sheep. If you'd not reported it the poor thing would probably have died. :( You never know when wire cutters could come in handy!

Not sure the sheep has been rescued yet. I got a voicemail from Dumfries police, saying they hadn't managed to track down the farmer. We were going to stop off at first farm we saw but with it being dark it was difficult to see if there was any.
