Ready for total body shock, 1st walk of 2014. Accompanying Charlie and Pidge on the Cairnwell three with Ben Gulabin as an extra. Left my car just past the spittal and drove up to the ski slopes with D & C.

Was hacking and staggering before reaching the restaurant, little over 30mins to the top of Carn Aosda working the way through heart, lungs, hamstrings and calfs fit to bust but made the top in one piece. Windy and cold but a beautiful sunrise.
Followed the ridge around to the Cairnwell as the ski slopes opened and arrived on top with 50mph winds blowing us about. Good walk around to Carn a'Gheoidh on firm hard packed snow, decision time return the way out or carry on for Gulabin. Weather conditions too good to wimp out, had lunch at the Invercauld estate walkers hut after clearing the snow out the doorway.
Ben Gulabin ascent of 216m at the end of the walk was hard but it did me the world of good (cough, cough).
Grand day out and good company until Charlie went base over apex on some ice on the landrover track almost in sight of the car.
A&E update - torn ligaments, no hills for 4 weeks - bummer.
