Another day in Glen Trool

This was a day when i should have just stayed in bed. After a crap nights sleep i headed off to Glen Trool, driving through rain on the way. Not good as the forecast down that way was sunshine. I decided to take the B road from Maybole, which i had driven before but that was in the summer, not a good idea. It's a single track road and before long i was driving through snow and the road was an ice rink. I have to say it was the worst driving experience of my life and at one point going over the brow of a hill i lost control. The car sped downhill veering to the right onto the grass verge and then to the left, again going off the road as i tried to control it. I still don't know how the car managed to get back on the road. I then stopped to check the car and luckily all was ok so i continued to Glen Trool with luckily no more incidents. I arrived at the parking area for Lamachan Hill, with my heart still pounding and thankful to have arrived in one piece. I had a wee few minutes before getting ready for the off, hoping the weather would clear. Unfortunately it didn't and i set off taking the walkhighlands route. All that it says in the route was correct, falling trees blocking the route and extremely boggy. I came across it all and by the time i reached the first summit my feet wet damp and cold with not a view in sight. Then i made my mistake, i hoped more than anything i was on the Donald Larg Hill as i'd left the stream to Mullmein Moss but as i continued to what i thought was Lamachan Hill, turned out to be Bennanbrack. I then found shelter, changed my damp socks and pondered what to do next. Still no visibility with the weather so i decided to return to Lamachan and head for Larg Hill, leaving Curleywee for another day. I eventually reached Larg Hill before returning to the col and heading down Mullmein and back to the stream. I now followed it back down negotiating all the same obsticles on the way up and yes the sun did eventually show, at around 14.30 when i was halfway back down. It wasn't a wasted day more a relieved one and i was glad to get two out the three done and think i will leave Curleywee as my last Donald. After getting changed i took the A714 road back to Girvan then the A77 and arrived home safe and sound with no incidents.
