Having travelled past these hills on the A86 a few times we got the opportunity to get onto these fine hills on Sunday.
1HPIM7030 (640x480).jpg
Good viewing down to Melrose from here.
2 HPIM7032 (640x482).jpg
The linking path between the two main hills.
3 HPIM7037 (640x480).jpg
The main top complete with the 'furniture' of a popular hill.

A grand few hours out and with on the Eastern side, after crossing the marked long distance trail, a very fine mature mixed woodland to walk through.

Great little hills to walk , I remember walking St Cuthberts Way and seeing them from the top of Wideopen Hill knowing that Melrose was just the other side , Two days later we were on them , that was April 2011 temps of 22c

Plus there are things to see in the woods at night.
Thanks for report.

I love the Eildons, as you said, a grand way to spend a few hours! I've not walked on the east side, always going from Melrose, this side is REALLY muddy, so get the gaiters on if you're heading up this path!
Plus there are things to see in the woods at night.

What kinds of things??

Pleased that we missed out on the mud...don't think that any of us had gaiters on when approaching from the East.
It just seemed, that from the A86 road, to be a reasonable way to go. A good off the road parking spot on the hill side of the minor road within 150 metres or so of the approach path up through the trees....pity about the large amount of discarded picnic rubbish...I filled up a shopping bag of assorted cans, plastic bottles, tins and plastic wrappers....hill folks don't leave such things behind? A good assortment of different track types all the way to the top of the first hill. Kind-of like being in the bonny Pentland hills.
