Sorry to read about your loss. I lost my 7 year old Golden Retriever last year when he collapsed on the hill. Your title is spot on - you can't predict when sh!t happens.

Dreadful circumstances that I'd imagine were difficult to recount TS. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks for your kind comments guys :) I thought this one had dropped off the end of the list. Yes it was a very tough couple of weeks after the event :( . Doing the report was not looking for any kind of sympathy, it was genuinely to bring the point to peoples attention just how dangerous and unpredictable things can be out there especially where our beloved hounds are concerned. On a nicer note I collected a pup today :) (see muts on Munros thread) but the downside is it could well be a sleepless couple of nights till she settles in
Thanks again, Colin

Oh my Goodness - what an awful experience! :( I felt sick when I read this. An astute warning to all walkers as we approach the winter period of the dangers. I know you now have another dog. Is she on the hills yet and keeping you in good company?

When I went up the Aonach's a Mum and her two kids were up in full winter with the dog - when the young lad (aged 15) approached the summit before his Mum i ensured that he held onto the dog until he had a lead to put her on as the cornicing was much like in your pics!

Glad you managed to get yourself to safety and that this heart-breaking event has not put you off the hills!

Hey Dawn, even today some 6 months up the rocky road of life, it still brings a tear to my eye when I think of this day :( But all the nice words of kindness that mostly complete strangers have offered, have been a great comfort even now. But sadness aside, the wee brat that is Jura is coming along just nicely :D
