This was to be my third day of the WH Spring Meet and after two fabulous days on the hill but very windy the forecast looked to be very similartoday

, dry yet very windy. Glas Bheinn looked a safe bet so Desmond, Evie, Nigel and Graeme D joined me and headed up to the car parking just beyond the large car park for Quinag on the road to Lylesku the A894
1.JPG
Car park at the roadside enough room for four cars, Glas Bheinn behind
2a.JPG
The path from the parking area is pretty wet and boggy in places and heads off in the direction of Loch na Gainmhich, soon you find a track on your right, take this until you see a wee cairn on your left
3.JPG
Heading on up from the track with Quinag in the distance
4.JPG
Heading on up to the centre where the grass gully is there is a feint path on the North side of the wee burn
5.JPG
Graeme D at one of the rest points, I think all were feeling the affects of the two previous days climbing slightly
6.JPG
Time for the cameras to come out to take a photograph of the majestic Quinag
7.JPG
Graeme looking back the way we had come
8.JPG
Coming over the first of many shoulders to hit the stoney strewn summit ridge, but still a long way to go, we were to find
9.JPG
GraemeD taking it all in
10.JPG
Evie striding on in great style, obviously a lot still left in the tank!
11.JPG
The summit! well it's way over there somewhere
12.JPG
Nigel having a wee breather. The summit was not as wind affected as the initial climb up to the summit, as the wind tended to whip around the Northern lower slopes, so that was a big plus seeing the distance to cover seemed quite far
13.JPG
Summit still a bit to go, in fact as you were approaching the top your eyes were drawn to a cairn on your left but in actual fact the summit is further on straight ahead
14.JPG
Getting nearer
15.JPG
A wee bit further
16.JPG
Final summit with strange plants growing????
17.JPG
Quinag from the summit cairn
18.JPG
Summit pose a necessity, made it in one hour thirty minutes

Summit view

What are they called? any ideas anyone! Hamish Brown in the SMC Corbett book suggests that this is a rather neglected hill, but I recon it's another wee gem in an altogether fantastic area.

I think it's thrift: in summer it would look like this http://s409.photobucket.com/user/hardclimb/media/NewCameraClachtollJune2009083.jpg.html

Thanks for that jmarkb. I don't know why there are three maps, will try and delete two.

Following with jealousy all your trips taken on the WH Meet. It looks like a lovely hill and a hill in under 3 h is always great option for a half day. Thank you for sharing and so far I never saw that plant when it was not in bloom

Hi there Mountainlove, you missed a fantastic weekend, but no doubt you had other adventurous plans up your sleeve :) very colourful in bloom, never seen it like that before high up on the summit area. Only downside was the gusting winds and maybe the air quality was a bit hazy for crisp photographs, but apart from that, spot on! :D

Great reminder of what proved to be a smashing Sunday morning snatch - thanks for posting.

You just don't get a sense of how strong that wind was.

Ahhh - memories. I needed that after the 36 hours I've had! I see I have my "Sunday morning and I've been robbed of an hour in bed" face on at the summit!

A fine hill and good company, and no I didn't do anything else down the road, cream crackered, combination of lack of sleep and physical activity, I guess. Did you stop off en route and do anything?

Nah, unless you count stopping at Aviemore for petrol, where I was treated to the spectacle of a bloke trying to peel a dead pheasant off his radiator grille in the forecourt! Caberfeidh - road kill alert!
