A warm up for my walk up Conachair the next day. I first went up Ceapabhal ten years ago during a week long winter stay on Harris so roughly I knew what to expect but ten years is quite a long time so it still felt like a new walk in many ways.
The approach was pleasant and easy across the machair and the sandy access track with a lot of baaing and tractor noise as accompaniment. The route up wasn't obvious though there was a sign requesting that stiles should be used. I ended up crossing the fence at the south west corner of the fenced land.
The ascent itself mostly afforded progress on narrow sheep tracks and there were plenty of gaps in the heather but occasionally the heather closed in or the grass became tussocky so not all smooth progress. Nevertheless, a very pleasant and relatively easy walk with fine views east and north.

I'm off to Harris later this month. I will certainly try your route. I've been before but stuck to the Corbett and Grahams. This time, the sub 2000s. Great views.

Nice one. Your photo 2 is almost the same view as that for May in my Colin Prior 2014 calendar currently hanging above my desk here in London. I was in the Uists in March walking on those beautiful deserted beaches, and it's making me want to go back already.

Nice one!

If you have the time/energy/weather, it's possible to descend to Toe Head, turn right and walk back round the coast to the beach.

I can thoroughly recommend the Sgaoth Aird horseshoe, but I guess that will be on your list already!

There's certainly no shortage of hills there and the coastline is something to behold.

Probably just shows that great photographers and mediocre photographers think alike! Yes, the beaches are something else.

We often joke about the beautiful beeches of Fyvie Castle grounds because, I suppose, we never spend much time at the beach so quite spellbinding to go along that coastline; I suppose if you're going to go to a beach it might as well be a beautiful one. Strange too, how the coastline almost subverts and becomes a focus of the whole trip.
