A Fyne day on Beinn Bhuidhe
Posted: Mon May 26, 2014 6:33 pm[After about 6 months of hanging around the site, reading other peoples reports we though it was time to post one of our own - so here goes....
After our usual compulsive analysis of every weather forecast available we decided west was best and picked Beinne Buidhe. Woke up to find cloud shrouding Bathgate hill but decided that we would put our faith in MWIS and set off to Loch Fyne. Exhibited our usual superb navigational skills by driving past the Erskine Bridge and wondering where the Clyde had come from. Once back on track we got to Loch Fyne and parked in the potholed carpark. Walked up the glen past the brewery, the highland cows (currently with extremely cute calves), got overtaken by a couple on bikes, then by a man on a bike and then reached the bike stand. From here the glen was very pretty with bluebells everywhere and the burn on our right. We got our first sight of the disused cottage
We then headed up the gorge with its waterfalls.
We wimped out of the scrambling step and went round the grassy crag. The rest of the climb up the gorge was straightforward and the top we stopped to admire the view.
We then had a brief respite as we headed across the boggy flatter area towards the ridge. The climb up the gully is punishingly steep but we made it up onto the ridge. We then followed the ridge along to the summit where we had stunning views of the surrounding hills.

We went back down the grassy walk highland route - somewhat naively we though this would be a gentle stroll down the hill - however its just a steep as the way up just a bit less rocky. Once back the track we were so glad to be on horizontal ground the first mile passed quickly. After that we became increasingly envious of people whizzing past us on their bikes. We trudged on getting hotter and more footsore counting off the landmarks until we got to the Fyne ale brewery. There was no way we were walking past it so we stopped for a drink and then staggered the last 500 metres to the car.
