We really must get a dog for the hills, kids are pestering constantly!!
Spaniel or Collie...................
Maybe start a thread!!
Well done.
Chris

Steady temperament all important if you have kids. I was asking Liz about 'cocker rage' and she said it's a result of intensive breeding but the working cockers don't seem to have it which is worth knowing. Collies are great for the hill but need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation (get twitchy if bored!) so it depends what kind of life you can offer really. You can't beat a lab for good temperament with kids and they tend not to be as hyper as collie or spaniel. :D

Couldn't put it better myself. Need to do the right thing and put them first. 8)

Well in this case my body seemed to recover quicker! I was out yesterday with Moira doing a Corbett near Ullapool and got soaked while the dogs were tucked up in the warm and dry at home. :D

I'm impressed you've been out again; I've just been pouring over maps - good fun on a wet day

A big thank you for doing the trip report - given my record on failing to produce them its as well you are more conscientious! I will add a few more photos though ...

First those amazing dogs - who didn't fight when Bertie found a bone and Jack wanted to share it :D

And Jack wanting to join the black dog set ...

... and of course wanting food ...

... keeping close to you on the ridge ...

... and those beautiful mountains ...

... Bertie eying up the route to Loch Affric and home ...

The dogs are great companions on the hills, I used to worry about them on scrambly bits - but the easy stuff is no problem for them. When it comes to more challenging stuff, as well as very rocky, or scree ridden ground we tend to leave them at home.

Thanks ML - not quite in your league but then didn't have your tent! Can you imagine sharing a tent with two muddy dogs?

Jack ended up with a hefty vet's bill and a lampshade to wear - those hills must be jinxed! :o

Thanks so much for adding your photos Huff_n_Puff. You're right the dogs were amazing together. If a squabble was going to happen it would have done over the bone but Bertie held his ground and remarkably Jack accepted it. 8) :D
