27th. May, 2014:
Daughter Mary announced out of the blue that she’d like to climb Ben Nevis and I agreed to take her up the proper way provided that she came along and climbed the two hills in the Mamores that I had yet to climb.

So, after an overnight train journey (in seats) from Euston to Glasgow and the morning stopper from Queen Street, we got to Fort William and headed up Glen Nevis. Early afternoon saw us flogging up the steep ridge towards Stob Ban with Fat Dad carrying tent, stove, fuel, food, etc. for three days.

We peeled off the ridge to the west well short of the summit, headed into Coire an Lochan and set up the tent on the corrie floor. From there it was an interesting scramble up the corrie back wall (past the scars and rock debris of a cornice avalanche from the winter) to the ridge and then west to Mullach nan Coirean with great views north to Ben Nevis and south to Bidean and to Loch Linnhe. It was then a simple stroll back along the ridge to the tent for a decent meal and a good sleep.

From there, we’d take in more of the Mamores and head north to Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis.

Hi Chris, I guess you must have lost a few pounds of weight carting that tent etc, looks like a heavy pack! glad you both had fine weather, and hope that's your daughter got the climbing bug :D , more reasons to get back on up to the Scottish hills, you canny beat them

Nice one, camp sites don't get much better than that
As Rod says, tent must be a wee bit heavier than the normal single man
