Hills: Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas

A return to a fine, and busy, Munro and it's neighbour, Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas.

The second day of our trip up north. Our first day, the saturday, had been a great walk up a fine hill in Skye, Sgurr na Stri. We left Skye fairly late and headed back across the bridge to Kyle of Lochalsh.

It was a fine end to the first day:

We continued along Glen Shiel, and parked the camel next to Loch Cluanie at Lundie. A quiet night, awakening to a stunning morning yet again:

We got something to eat, packed up and drove south. We hadn't planned a specific walk for day 2, and after some thought we agreed on Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas. I was trying out a 120 roll film camera and Ben Lawers was an outstanding viewpoint from where to take some pictures.

The visitor centre car park was mobbed.

We opted to head up Coire Odhar, ascend Ben Lawers then drop and go up and over Beinn Ghlas then descend to the carpark.

The view from the head of Coire Odhar, looking north.

Still a lot of snow about. Our first view of Ben Lawers.

It was a winter playground. Loads of folk out enjoying the conditions, even a few winter skills classes on the go.

We headed up Ben Lawers in great conditions.

Even more folk out. A few paragliders too!!

The views from the top were stunning.

We headed back to the beach to ascend Beinn Ghlas.

Fine photos from a fine pair of hills, makes hillwaking a pleasure on a day like you had. 8)
A pair of hills that always seem to be busy, first time on Ben Lawers counted 39 people, and a guide on a walkie-talkie with 12 more on the way up :D

Busy weekend for you and Andie and another impressive set of photos and report from a beautiful part of the Highlands.

Did you pick up any local beers along the way???
