Munros Eighty Six and Eighty Seven

After getting up Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis from a camp site round the back of Ben Nevis in Allt Coire Guibhsachan on the previous day, the three of us (me, my son Tom and his mate, Chris) decided to get back over the 4,000 foot contour again and take in the Aonachs. It was a simple morning climb back up to the col between the Aonachs and Carn Mor Dearg but quite intricate and steep in misty weather from there up to the plateau between the two summits. Once up, though, it was a trivial walk north to the summit of Aonach Mor before we turned on our heels and headed back south to its bigger sister. Despite the mist there were occasional glimpses of the awesome wilderness to the north east and across to the Grey Corries - lonely country. We carried on south east to the top of Stob Coire Bhealaich and then steeply south to Sgurr a Bhuic before heading back down to the tents in Guibhsachan in order to shift our base. Accordingly, we packed up and descended to Steall and the Water of Nevis to a beautiful afternoon camp site on the grassy banks of the river where there was even enough dead, dry wood around to have a fire.
We had our eyes on the Mamores for the following day.
