This walk was a bit of a nightmare as there was no easy way up or down it from the Contin side. I left from the campsite in Contin to head north along the road, turning left after the bridge and followed the track round to the dam. My plan was to go up from the south at the Power Station as there was a break in the map hear but the gates were locked, so i had to head back and search for a way up. I saw a break in the deep fern and made my way to it and climbed & scrambled my way up, through one of the worst routes i've ever done. I eventually reached the summit before deciding which way to get down. No way was i going the way i came up so i headed in a north east direction to avoid the crags, making my way down through the trees. No problems so far but then i approach the fern, which is taller than me and have no choice but to battle through it, before finally getting back on the track. My day wasn't complete, as there were a family of Pigs on the track at the farm that were quite inquisitive. Once past the Pigs i made my way back to the campsite.

Yes, the bracken is pretty high right now! You need to carry a machete if you are going off path.

It's amazing that every hill, however awkward to get to, has a cairn on top. Looks like the views are good though.

We were tipped off by someone who is a water bailliff in that area that the gates would be locked in the (then) near future, so went and did it from the south soon after. Having read this, am SO glad we did.Have you checked yourself for ticks after all that bracken?

It's something i've never had thankfully. Midges and Clegs love my skin but luckily so far, Ticks don't. :D
