Stob Binnein, Ben More & Morrissey
Posted: Wed Aug 06, 2014 4:45 pmI set off at 6am & was back in the house by ten past as I remembered I had left my boots in the house, great start to the day. Once I had everything I headed off with Morrissey's new album for company. I arrived at the car park just after 7.30 to find someone had the same idea as me to start early. Right enough as I made way over the style I could just make out someone half way up the steep slope. I had done a bit of reading on Ben More and Stob Binnein on this website & a few folk had commented that attacking the two from the south was the easier option but it did involve a steep incline at the very start, how true those reports were!
I made it to the top of Stob Binnein within two hours though visibility was next to nothing (just my luck, the same can be said of my view from Ben Vorlich 9 days previous). I was in two minds about heading on to Ben More & had started to head back the way I came when I did a u-turn & headed for Ben More. As I headed down to the saddle in between both peaks the cloud started to lift & I could make out Ben More, within a hour as I was at the top of my second Munro of the day, both conquered before midday.
From here I decided to head down to the saddle in between the two peaks and follow that into the valley where I could pick up the trail along Inverlochlarig Burn. Finally I made it back to the car & another listen to Morrissey sing about Neal Cassady dropping down dead & 'Earth is the loneliest planet' on the journey back after a cracking day out & happy that I went for Ben More after all.
