I had my eye on this corbett for some time after visiting ardgour a few times recently.

Since two out of four of us were from the west coast we decided to take the car over the corran ferry for this one. It costs just under £8 each way Johnny Corbett

I suggested that we walk this route in a clockwise direction. Wrong choice!

We started the walk on the A861. Parked just before the bridge, where there is parking for a couple of cars. We then walked over the bridge on the road. We left the road and headed north west up the broad ridge of Sron a ‘ Gharbh Choire Bhig. We picked up a faint path on occasions and made our way through lots of rocky outcrops.

The faint path continues northwest up to 823 m, where a cairn marks the top of Sron.

John had headed way in front of us on some sort of mission. :D

From Sron the views over to Garbh Bheinn were fantastic, so the 3 of us decided to stop here for some lunch and admire the views. The ascent up Garbh Bheinn from here looked quite steep :(

After a 15 minute lunch stop we continued north and picked up the path which headed down a scrambly area to a col at 748.

At this point a cairn marks the spot of the descent path down towards the path alongside Coire an Lubhair.

We continued northwest following a faint path up the grass slopes of Garbh Bheinn. The ascent was a lot better and easier going than it looked. The path continues east over some huge rocks to reach the summit of Garbh Bheinn.

We reached the summit in 3hours 10minutes. Or some of us did

We had a good 20 minute break to refuel again and then headed straight back down towards the col at 748.

From the col we headed east down a steep steep screey path to reach the Abhainn Coire an lubhair. Stevie and i stopping on numerous occasions to check on and wait for the other 2.

We crossed the Abhainn Coire an Lubhair easily and picked up a path on the opposite side which would lead us back to the parking spot. The path seems relentless and was extremely boggy and wet. I must admit that I hated this walk back to the car and was wishing that i had gone up and down the hill the same way. The only good thing about it was the view back to garbh Bheinn from this side.

We reached a stile at the end of the walk where we sat and waited an hour for the other two to reach us. Lovely bar meal in The Inn at Ardgour (well recommended) before catching the corran ferry back (just under £8 JC) and made our way to the Clachaig for a further refreshment

Well Mountain Thyme, I don't believe you started out with only a Corbett in mind! :D at the back of your mind was others! that's my mind made up though, to miss the walk back you took. You say it was wrong to go clockwise, why?

You got a nice kip at the summit just as well it was a descent day, and what's this poly bagson the summit   Not yours I know.

Very nice. The light cloud gives the pics an atmospheric feel.

Basscadet and myself did that walk out in the dark on December 30th last year, with only one headtorch  . It's a cracking hill though - looking forward to returning for some of the scrambles :D .

The circuit as in staying high rather than down into the corrie ?

Paths on and off on this one JC... im surprised you managed this one JC. I thought you would be knackered by the time you got to the hill as you were too tight to take your car
