As a novice to munro bagging and having only walked 5 munros previously Beinn Chabhair is a relatively easy walk. Starts off steep heading up and away from Inverarnan but once you get over that first bit you are totally isolated, no noise from roads or anything else, bliss. Then you are faced with a long rambling section of bog - bit of an understatement in November as I squelched through what felt like a stream all the way and, at one point, ended up in an attempt to cross a particularly wet bit up to my thighs in mud!!! Thankfully the gaiters stopped a fair bit of it going in my boots. The top section is a series of false summits. Low cloud meant every time I thought I had made it another dark shape loomed ahead. Can't comment on the view due to the low cloud.

The descent was very slippy and a real ankle breaker - very rocky loose steep paths at the top and bottom meant a few close calls. The boggy section, once I accepted my feet were soaking, came as a relief as I could just march straight through it without the fear of twisting an ankle. Felt like a long jumper by the time I got through this section due to the amount of sections where I had to really go for it - this is how I ended up up to my thighs on the way up! You would think I would learn!!

Finally, there is no technicality to this munro, just a slog. One tip - don't do it in November!!! This is a summer walk when there has been a long dry spell and the bog should just about reach your knees!!!

All in all, enjoyable walk as far as I'm concerned probably more so as I am a novice and reaching that cairn is still exhilarating. Number 6, how many have I still to do??
