Having realised that, despite climbing my first Munro in 1975, death would intervene before I finished them if I didn't raise my game, I decided to celebrate turning 50 with a solo, unsupported walk over tops of the Munros from Inverie to Stonehaven. Well, it was an ambitious plan and, having come up from the south by train on the previous day, my first venture was to be to take in Ladhar Bheinn.
After a night in a Mallaig bed and breakfast, I duly caught the ferry to Inverie and was heading north on forestry tracks out of the village by mid-morning, arriving at Folach within 90 minutes or so. The next couple of kilometres, however, probably took rather longer as 850 metres of steep terrain and a sack weighing very nearly 30 kilogrammes took its toll; it was good to get to the top!
The intricate ridge east, though, was much more of a pleasure - no-one in sight, great views down into Coire Dhorrcail and, despite lowering cloud, occasional glimpses of Beinn Sgritheall and the Kintail hills to the north.

Ladhair Beinn is, though, a big hill and, by the time I was over Stob a' Chearcaill on the descent ridge, I'd had enough for a first day - certainly carrying on to Luinne Bheinn in the gathering gloom didn't look especially attractive - and I dropped down into Coire a' Phuill to find a decent site for the tent.
