A short drive over from Dumglow and the hardest part of the walk, finding a parking spot - it's a popular hill.
While sticking on the boots I watched three guys training on the steps. They were sprinting up to the first corner and were having a breather when I got up to them. I was trying to give the impression that I wasn't out of puff having just walked up but I'm not convinced I pulled it off.
The initial climb is fairly steep with wooden steps on the lower slopes, once past the steps the track levels off and the gradient is far easier.
- Sharp left turn
On reaching the edge of the wood the track turns right for about 100 yards before crossing a fence and leaving the woods behind.
- Short climb after the wood
- View over to the distant trig point
Once out the woods there is a short climb to a heathery mound, from there the summit trig point can be seen and it is an easy 10 minute walk on a good path.
- View from the top
- Looking over Loch Leven - Bishop Hill has disappeared
With a bit of low cloud and snow blowing around in the wind the views aren't great so I only hung around for 5 minutes on the top.
- Looking back to the trig point
- Final view before dropping back down in to the wood
An easy walk back down to the car to finish off a really nice walk. I think I may need to come back to this one as looking at other reports the views really are good from the top. If looking for a quiet hill, this isn't one to go for, probably the busiest hill I've been on for months.
After Benarty Hill I headed over to Luthrie to walk Norman's Law but by the time I got there the cloud was covering the tops of even these small hills and the rain was on so decided to leave it for a better day.
