Walkhighlands

The Lochnagar Munro's seemed a decent option on a good Autumn day. Arrived at the Spittal of Glenmuick car park in good time and headed off along Loch Muick. Was a fairly hazy day, but undeterred, we made good time on the path along the loch. We were soon heading up the path that would take us around Sandy Hillock, a strangely un-Gaelic name!!! It is good easy walking around here, and we were soon on the flanks of Broad Cairn. The summit was soon reached After a 5 minute stop, we made our way across Cairn of Gowal and on to Cairn Bannoch. From here, we went out to the strangely named Fafernie before moving on to Carn an t-Sagairt Mor, where the remnants of a plane crash litter the area. A quick down and up to Carn an t-Sagairt Beag was done before hitting Carn a'Choire Bhoideach. As the scenery is not the most inspiring around here, we made for our last Munro of the day, Cac Carn Beag or Lochnagar. There was quite a gathering on the top, including a walker who, at 80+ year old, had come up the gully from the loch itself, well done to him With time moving on, we made our way around the edge of the giant cliffs that loom over the loch, Cuidhe Crom being our next stop. A Raven was there to meet us, but we didn't hang around as we still wanted to go up Meikle Pap. It is a pretty straight forward walk back to Glenmuick from here, taking you beneath Conachcraig Enjoyed the day, but not the most inspiring set of Munro's it has to be said!!

Would love to visit this area, it looks stunning. Lovely photos of a very enjoyable looking walk.

Sorry to hear that hopper, maybe on your second round you'll get a better day

Nice to see the pics of the places I went last saturday. I did this in the clag (my 3rd attempt) and saw very little.

It's a real pleasure to revisit hills by reading other people's reports, so thanks for this. You're right that they aren't the most spectacular of Scotland's mountains but these hills have a big spacious grandeur about them that is a joy. Thanks for sharing

Enjoyed that, have these to do yet, never seem to be at the top of my list, don't know why, looks perfect for a longish, clear day though.

Re-your Octogenarian, I occasionally walk with a 79 year old and hope that I'm still able to get into the hills at that age...difficult to imagine getting another 30 years out of this body though

Good point about the spacious grandeur. Maybe I was a bit harsh, every hill has it's own merits.

It certainly is a good day out, especially if you visit the Munro Tops as well. Good luck for the next 30 as well!!
