wind and snow on Tullich hill and Beinn Bhreac
Posted: Sun Mar 01, 2015 1:46 pmAccording to the weather forecast this was going to be a wet and windy day across most of Scotland.
I found these 2 smaller hills just north of glasgow which dont seem to be walked as much as the more popular ones.
Thanks to the guys who have uploaded their routs as this turned out to be a great circuit.
Nice drive up the glen and found the sign posted car park which was empty which is always handy.
Walk down past the cottage and headed up Tullich Hill which is also sign posted to keep you away from the cottage and farm i guess.
Wind was constant today but the sun and snow were battling each other for my attention!
no views from the top of Tulloch Hill as i was caught in the middle of a snow storm. I walked NE to the other high point on the top of the hill just as the visibility was getting better so managed a couple of snaps then headed down towards the glen.
Got a few good views of the Arrochar Alps and to the Luss hills on my way up Ben Reoch then got caught in another snow flurry when i reached the cairn on the top to spoil my views again!
i didnt hang about long as it was cold and windy on the top so i headed down SE and made a bee line for the top of Beinn Bhreac and picked up an old track which took me to the top.
I caught a view of Loch Lomond just before the summit but it was very dark due to the low black clouds, Ben Lomond was also just about visible and didnt look like it would have been a nice day up there today.
I reached the summit and found some nice shelter behind a large snow drift so stopped here and had my lunch and tea. I must have stayed on the top0 for about 20-30 mins as i was enjoying being out of the wind for the first time today and there had not been a snow flurry for the last hour which made the walk worth while.
This was a nice walk and is close to Glasgow and had a good combo of grass, bogs, snow and ice.
