A great day. Plenty of sunshine and a few snow flurries. A few km away in Lochwinnoch the streets were very wet! The clouds provided shadows amongst the bright sun and it was photographers dream. However, a photographer needs a (working ) camera and yours truly had lifted the wrong one from home.......AARGH!
What a view, in every direction. I had often intended to do something in Renfrewshire and today was a great choice. It is in the Dumgoyne/ Broughton Heights/ Ben Aan category: not high, but well positioned for quality of views out of proportion to the height.
I noted previous comments about bogginess (23 feb) and calculated that since it has been quite dry for the last week, it might not be too bad. Fair enough, but it would not be a good expedition after a wet spell, unless you are well equipped.
I did not realise that the Muirshiel Visitor Centre is only open seasonally or at weekends in winter, so don't count on a cup of coffee after your exertions in the winter. Somehow, I hadn't realised that it was at the end of a single track road, a bit remote. They do provide a shelter near the former Baryte mine.
It was a day to savour and remember.
