- Newton Bridge - Glenalmond
Drove round from Comrie Croft to unload my bike at the car park beside Newton Bridge at the foot of Glenalmond,
passing some Sand martins making nesting holes in a bank at the side of the track on the way to Achnafree.
Also watched a horse pulling timber from a felling operation at the mouth o the glen with a grizzled special forces guy, who waited to photograph the operation, while I headed off up the glen.
- Sand Martins in Glenalmond
Quite a pleasant bike up the glen to the bottom of the hill track which branches off between Lechria & Dalreich.
Pushed my bike up the first zig to where the track overlooks the wee dam on the Alt coire Bheilg. Since lambing was in full swing, the shepherds were out checking their ewes.
The pull up on to the ridge wasn't too bad, but once on the top, it seemed to drag on a bit in the heat of the day, only pausing on the way up to take a pic of an aircraft on its way to somewhere.
- Flying over Ben Chonzie
Blazing sun and virtually no breeze whilst walking along the tops is quite unusual, . Just before the subsidiary summit (881m) I cut off the hill track, aiming for a grassy patch on C na B, round the side of the bump to get to the summit of C na B and was pleasantly surprised to find a peat hag with a grassy lower slope instead of the usual peat porrige, affording an easy access to the grassy slope on C na B. A sort of faint track up the grassy slope brings one out at the top. What a view of the Lawers range, still with a fair cladding of old snow. Off to the west was Stob Binnein & Ben More. I was able to sit comfortably by the summit cairn for lunch of a tuna & banana piece, with some jelly beans for pudding and soak in the vista ! Even took a selfie - don't think I'll do that again - it's too scary !
- Lawers Range from Creag na Beinne
Soon I had to leave this idyll and head back down, which wasn't too comfortable as this was the first walk in my new boots. By the time I reached the bike, my feet were on fire. To make matters worse, the chain on my bike broke, but luckily I was able to coast most of the way down the glen with a bit of assist from the battery.
What a brilliant day.
