Great report - had one of my finest winter days on the hill and remember the castle providing some heart stopping moment in descent !

Great photos and description - must get back soon

Great pictures and what a braw day! 8) Not sure that you have tempted me to do this hill though, the bypass path looks scary!

Wow, wow, wow! Brilliant, brilliant pics. Beinn Dearg 7 is really an awesome image; and I think I know just what you mean about the view having been there for ever. Just so inspiring.

Please get into the Cuillins, and do a similar job there...... (ie masses of this quality mountain porn :D )

What a cracking report Annie. The views must be astounding, and it must be great having that ridge all to your self.

I attempted to wild camp on the ridge more than a month ago, aiming to do the route clock-wise but turned back before reaching Stuc Loch na Cab. It was so steep, and the terrain was extremely wet that I had almost no grip on the vertical bog, and doing it solo I decided to be safe rather than sorry. Is the usual ascent when doing it anti-clockwise any easier?

Phew, Gripping stuff there Annie, and fantastic photographs. Question is Clockwise or anti clockwise?

Thanks everyone, for your encouraging comments.

I'm not sure that there is a 'usual' ascent. I believe most people tend to stay on the path for longer (than I did) and ascend the shoulder from Loch na Cabar - which is what you did. From the map, my route looks even steeper but then I was fortunate that the grass was dry and not slippery.

Thanks for your advice, Clive. Wise as always!

It depends. I think for some people it doesn't really matter but, if you wanted to avoid the 'Castle', it's easier to find the bypass going anti-clockwise. As for the ascent and descent - they will be steep wherever you try.

Yes, I remember your report. I would never consider this hill in snow!

A scary sounding traverse but great set of pictures. Was here in 1993 I think from the Poca Buidhe direction and remember the descent of the north west end as being partly over very wobbly sandstone blocks.
