Beinn Liath Mhor, made it this time.
Posted: Fri May 15, 2015 11:16 pmLast autumn my long-time hill walking pal Jack and I tried to add Beinn Liath Mhor to his nearly complete Munro list. Jack is running in a new hip so our progress was slow but steady. However we were defeated by torrential rain, a howling gale and what was obviously going to be a lack of daylight having reached the lochan at the top of the path up Coire Lair, hoping this might be the easier, more direct route to the summit.
Now we were back with plenty of daylight and a gloriously clear and mostly sunny day. We decided on the same route straight up Coire Lair and up through the crags to the summit, then if all was well with the hip we might tackle the significant ups and downs of the ridge as a route back down. This was indeed the way things turned out and although it took nearly six hours to reach the summit and about the same coming down the ridge the views and the few slightly tricky sections made the whole day memorable. A great day for Jack despite the slightly reduced mobility and proof a bit of determination and patience can achieve wonderful results.

No more photos after that one while we concentrated on getting down off the end of the ridge. That bit of path is a seriously steep drop doing the route this way round especially when you're being a bit extra careful, but we had a great walk and an altogether very satisfying day.
