Bog Fest! - Gaiters (or hovercraft!!) recommended.
Saturday of a Bank Holiday weekend and the car park at Inverarnan was very busy. Weather started with blue skies but became slightly overcast and a bit hazy.
As per the description up to the Ben Glas waterfall.
The footpath is very eroded and as it emerges onto the upper moorland becomes immediately boggy.
Unfortunately this is yet another valley where the views and remote feel have been blighted with the big pylons tramping across the landscape and skyline.
The long (1 1/2 hrs) section across the moor to the Lochan Beinn Chabhair is very boggy and tedious.
Even though this was not walked after a wet spell, I was so pleased I put my gaiters on.
I would certainly not recommend this walk after a period of rain!!
The only relief during the boggy section is a pleasant waterfall.
Eventually the Lochan is reached.
The path now ascends steeply up the flank of Beinn Chabhair on the left but is still both wet and eroded.
Eventually the path escapes the wetness and becomes a very nice rocky footpath along the ridge and towards the summit.
This is the best section of the route and after a few false summits the view of the summit appears.
Along this nice rocky section and the summit is reached.
The view from the summit back down to the Lochan (and route up) is also good.
The summit is a good place to be and the views all around are excellent. On this day it was a little hazy but on a good day the views in all directions would be really grand.
Shame the walk is spoiled by the tedious boggy section.
