Ben Wyvis by bike from Evanton

Ben Wyvis never seemed like much of a challenge, nor very interesting to me, so I decided to rope my friend Adam into attempting it half on mountain bikes from Evanton. We cycled up Glenglass as far as the dirt track went towards the foot of the ridge, then, into a fearsome headwind, battled to the top from the East Side. It was hard work on the way back but the view of the Ben is far more inspiring on the way up than the well trodden way from the other side. We did the whole ridge past the North of Loch a Choire Mhoir and trudged back through bog and heather to the bikes left at the edge of the glenglass forest. The downhill ride back to Evanton of some 9km was brilliant fun and minimal effort (great speed can be attained) and a after a very full day walking the final reward was a couple of pints and a good meal in the Novar Hotel.
It is a harder way to do Ben Wyvis but I'd do it again. Requires an early start and a bit of stamina but very rewarding.

Noose - that sounds like an interesting way to do Wyvis. How far up Glen Glas can you take a car - did you cycle from Evanton because you had to or because you like cycling? Also if you did the whole ridge presumably that included Glas Leathad Beag? I ask because I have done Wyvis main top from the other side but want to do Glas Leathad Beag now as it could become a Munro main peak sometime, and an approach from the East would be different. cheers
