Beinn Liath Mhor a' Ghiubhais Li WH Meet

Day 1 of the Walkhighlands Summer Meet in Aultguish. Picked Jelena up at Glasgows Buchanan Street Station at 740am and headed north. The drive up the A9 was pretty miserable until we passed Inverness and then blue skies appeared We stopped off at the Aultguish Inn to put the cider and other refreshments in the fridge en route to the hill, so we could enjoy a cold drink post walk

The start of the walk is only a 5 minute drive from the Aultguish Inn. Parked up in a small parking bay with room for 2 cars at the north side of Loch Glascarnoch, just south of the main carpark for The Fannaichs and Am Faochagach.

We headed along the track signposted for Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich. We followed the Abhainn an Torrain Duibh for a short distance and then eventually crossed over it.

We picked up an AV track on the east heading through the forest. We continued on this track until we reached an opening at the end of the forest.

From here we headed south east up the shoulder of Beinn Liath Mhor a’ Ghubhais Li.
Heading up the views over to the Fannaichs and towards Beinn Dearg and Am Faochagach were stunning. It was pretty straightforward climb be it a wee bit boggy in places.

Continued southeast up to a small cairn and further onwards to a shelter cairn with remnants of a trig point. We sat for a while taking in the views.

We decided to head northeast in the direction of Meall Diamh, but rather than climbing up Meall Diamh we skirted along the west side of it, following a fence for a short spell. Rather than follow it down to the road, decided to climb it and head towards the car.

This decision was short lived as it was extremely boggy so headed in the direction of a metal gate and made our way straight down to the A835 and back along to the car.

Back to the car in 2hours 35 minutes. Nice wee hill, with great views and good company. And a wee tiny drive back to the Aultguish for the first nights refreshments

Nice one Theresa, like the circular walk idea. Like the photo of the two of you on the summit, very nice. That was a wobbly old fence to climb Never seen a trig point like that before, apart from the time I climbed this hill, that is.
