Lochnagar at last!

For all those complaining Lochnagar is too far from Glasgow: it's just as far from Inverness! 2.5 hours drive each way and some is done on a narrow B road, where you can't go faster than 30-40mph. That's Scotland for you

The distance isn't the problem it's getting somebody to drive you that distance

I use a Canon 100D, it is an SLR but is a smaller and lighter design. For these photos I used a EF-S 55-250mm IS lens (my standard lens) for the wildlife and Millie, and a EF-S 10-22mm wide-angle lens for the landscape photos. I had a 700D before and definitely prefer the 100D.

Mmm, not sure I will buy another body. I have a 650D though I haven't taken it up the hills yet. I am keen to get some good wildlife shots though and the SX710HS just isn't quite getting it unless the subjects are very close and still.
The EF-S 55-250mm IS lens is priced at a level I would consider. I got a kit which comes with an 18-55mm initially for work stuff. A 10-22mm is more expensive but in comparison with the thousands for prime lens I have considered this might be the way to go for me.

650D is basically the same as the 100D, they just made some changes to make the 100D lighter. My previous body broke so I opted for the 100D rather than the 760D. If it's wildlife shots then the 55-250mm is a good choice, I got my current one for around £100. I have a 300mm IS lens as well but I don't find that doesn't give very sharp photos at full zoom and the better lenses are well out of my budget! There are always some wildlife shots that are out of range but for the most part the ones I do get that are reasonably close I'm happy with and it is usually good enough to get an ID shot of a distant bird or something.
