A brilliant weekend. Left London in the school minibus with Simon and Jamie, Gregor and Stanley, Frank, Sam, Frank, Archie, Gabriel and Oscar. Drove to Cardiff YHA with a delightful stop en route at The Farnborough Gate Retail Park Macdonalds. Cardiff YHA is a very high quality experience. Sadly no pictures. Up at 7:00 for a big breakfast and drove to Tesco to buy various essentials including a cheap radio to catch Wales v England.
We then drove up to the A4067 and left the minibus in the campsite.

There's a steep climb to begin but the weather was glorious.

First break

Soon the ridge up to Fan Hir opened up.

Fantastic views south to the sea.

The path follows the ridge West.

Then we walked down to the Tarn

Image

Wild camp on the West side of the Tarn. We swam in the leech infested waters.

Image

A cold night listening to Wales beat England and drinking a quality malt. Lovely morning view:

Still too warm to sleep indoors for some...

A quick climb after breakfast.

Image

We hit 802m at the summit of Fan Frycheiniog

Image

Fantastic views all round.

Then rucksacks on and back down towards the road.

A great weekend.

PS A few months later, Jamie was flying to New York and managed to get this snap from his window. You can see the exact spot we camped.

Good stuff Majorbunting, some lovely shots of the lads having the best of it in Wales, you really got lucky with the weather too. :D Does sleeping in a tent count as 'indoors'
