First walk report for WH, so I thought I would start with something simple. I decided to try a slightly different route to those already posted, the 1: 25000 OS map suggested there was a track through the trees that started just to the north of the usual parking area. The weather didn't look promising but I managed to get parked easily and the gate was unlocked.

Not far along the track I came to a junction, I stayed left and headed uphill and spotted the gate that lead onto the open hillside.

Heading uphill to the gate out of the trees.

Through the gate (thankfully, it was unlocked too) and along a grassier track to a large gap in the wall.

Gap in the wall, Mount Blair in the background.

From here I just followed the wall uphill and along to the summit. The heather wasn't too deep so it wasn't a major slog.

The way up.....

Almost at the top...

Despite the cloud there were some good views, summit of Mount Blair was hidden in cloud though. The weather looked like it was going to get worse so I headed back down the way I climbed up.

Definitely an enjoyable short walk, I think I will return on a nice summer evening....

I read this and thought this would be a decent wee hill to do in the winter and then realised I'd already been there (albeit a different route).

Might head back and try your route but maybe pick a better day than either of us had.

Hi,

Yes, it was a nice wee walk but the weather was not ideal. I am off to read the reports you both wrote for Crock and Hare Cairn for when decent weather and some time off coincide (being optimistic...).

Cheers

Glad you found another way, good news about the gate not being locked as well, handy :) Don't take my route off Crock bit of a nightmare

If you see this guy near Crock, just run, don't look back, just keep running - he is one evil sod !!!

Cheers for the advice about Crock folks. I will definitely keep an eye out for the evil pheasant!
