Ochils - Burnfoot Wind Farm

Not a walk report proper, but being bored on Thursday night decided to go and have a look see at the construction activity north of Alva where the existing track is being widened and flattened, and the power cable is being laid that will connect the windfarm to the national grid at the substation near Fishcross.

Kind of a grim read :

Never been there, but looks like another fine hill ruined and that's before they stick the turbines up.

Just appalling and sad :( . Although there are already windfarms in other parts of the Ochils, I used to enjoy the view west from Ben Cleuch across the rolling high land to the Trossachs as it was still free of them. I am not sure whether I shall return here now :(

Just horrid isnt it, the view of the Ochil line from the flat lands is a mighty fine one, now you can clearly see this scar.

And I believe a further 3 windfarms are in planning for the Ochils, one wonders where it will all end.. :(

The building of windfarms may not be that pretty but hopefully when it is completed the scar will fade. The view that we see has already been dramatically altered by man. Turbines have a certain elegance and are not as instrusive as the roads we all drive up to get to the hills, nor the deforestation that we have caused.

Climate change is going to have a dramatic impact on the wider environment and we need to accept that we need to make a contribution to trying to lessen the severity by embracing renewable energy technology.
