Initial impressions were good. Starting from the car park, we headed through a pine forest and out onto a 4x4 track. The views from the track were impressive. Two 900m mountains covered in cloud and lots of pine trees and a lovely stream. But thats where the good of this walk ends.

The views never changed and the track was not very challenging at all. Finally reached Derry Lodge and had something to eat at the stream. We saw the start of the Lairig Ghru pass to Aviemore, before heading back. The walk back was boring and the view wasn't as impressive as we were hoping for.

We diverted to have a look at a Salmon Ladder near the Linn of Dee and saw a spectacular waterfall, but overall we were bored on this walk.

Rating: 4/10

You probably noticed people cycling the route to Derry Lodge - hillwalkers looking to avoid the somewhat dull walk in to the more exciting stuff. Great place to camp though.....
