Meall a' Phubuill crisp snow and blue sky

After over a week of constant rain and with many roads closed or even washed away with flooding in the NE, I had decided enough was enough and was again heading West. Saturday was looking good said the forecasters so Friday afternoon set sail so to speak from the East side towards Drumochter up the A9 where there were no reported flooding problems through Laggan towards Glen Nevis YH where I would stay the night. After a meal in Fort Bill I returned to the YH for an intertaining evening with a couple of German Scottish Hill lovers Franz and Rudi who were on a three week tour of Scotland, lucky guys :D. Over a few drams and beers many new ideas were hatched for their holidays, hope you guys are enjoying Skye when you read this. In the morning I was up quite early and ready for Theresa when she arrived after driving up in the morning.[/attachment]
1.JPG
We parked our car at the very end of the Glen Loy road near some bins where there is a area large enough to take a few cars
1a.JPG
After we walked through the first gate and past a couple of houses there is another gate to pass through before heading down what this morning was a very ice track in places towards our goal.
1b.JPG
Looking back the way we had come
2.JPG
Another photo looking down the Glen with Theresa taking another opportunity to take another photograph
3.JPG
It was cold and frosty but very little wind and with the brisk walking at this stage although care had to be taken when the icy sections were to be crossed
4.JPG
A bit further on we were to start climbing up the fairly dry and frosted lower slopes after we had passed what is called Brian Choille on the OS map
5.JPG
Still to reach the snow line on the South slopes of Druim Gleann Laoigh
6.JPG
Just hitting the snow line
7.JPG
Some nice icicle formations with no sign of any thaw
8.JPG
Looking back at Ben Nevis in the distance. We had now reached the snow line but the depth of snow was nothing like on the Perthshire Corbett four weeks ago
9.JPG
Soon we arrived at the Dry Stane Dyke which you follow to the summit of the 747m top
10.JPG
Looking back down the length of the Dyke
11.JPG
From the summit of the 747m top we startled a large herd of dear which ran across the bealach below
12.JPG
Following the dyke down to the bealach with Meall a' Phubuill in front of us
13.JPG
Looking back towards the bealach and the 747m summit from the East slopes
14.JPG
Now on the summit with Ben Nevis and the 747m summit both clear
15.JPG
Zoomed shot of Theresa who had stopped to take lots more photographs of the wonderful scenery
16.JPG
Me on the summit
17.JPG
Happy it's not a crawling job this time, with superb views all around. The reason we go hill walking really. Totally forgetting the week of rain we have had earlier
18.JPG
Coming off the South East shoulder and looking up towards Glensulaig bothy
19.JPG
Returning on the still icy and frosted path. Although taking nearly six hours for this walk, probably about half an hour or more could be knocked off if the track had not been so icy and proper walking pace could be attained
20.JPG
Looking back to nearly the starting point

Bet you were glad the snow wasn't that deep

Nice day - was just to the west of you on Streap and Braigh nan Uamhachan. Could've used a little more sunshine but I'm not complaining really 8)

Ah, a nice crisp day, perfect after all that rain. Sounds like it was a relaxed trip too, unlike that other one.

A great day with great company, what more can a guy ask for. Certainly made up for the week before with that constant rain, now totally forgotten :D

It's one of those hills very few people ever heard of  but a perfect one for shorter days. It was my 80th Corbett, incidentally. We took a slightly different route back, traversing the eastern top (unnamed 698m).

Maybe weather gods will smile at Scotland at last, after so many weeks of miserable rain and cloud. A cold snap is coming so fingers crossed!

I'd never consciously heard of this one, either, though must have seen it in the guide books. Looks like a grand day out!

A nice day out with cracking views from high up, the Ben really stands out well. Glen Roy is a nice Glen to drive up as well with very little traffic which is a nice plus as well :D

Pity you guys didn't make it, a great day out, and a good night at the YH as well.

Hi dogplodder, a nice wee hill, and with nothing too steep, surprisingly little snow on the summit, compared to the last one
